Correspondence from a childhood friend; 5 letters bear an R in Hugo's hand at the top showing that he has replied. Charenton April 10 [1841]. This "old schoolmate, playmate, and even house mate", appointed captain in the 59th after 26 years of service, married with two children, asks Victor, who has become "a great character", to help him obtain the decoration to get his daughter into Saint-Denis... July 6. A painful sciatica prevented him from coming to see Victor; he gives the names of his superiors. November 1 [1842], he asks Victor to let his son enter a royal college free of charge. February 23 [1843]. He has been to Victor's house several times without finding him, to talk to him about a grant for his son's entrance to La Flèche; he asks for a box for Lucrèce Borgia at the Odeon. 2 March. Complains of Victor's silence, and hopes he is not angry with him. 7 April. He has just been awarded the Légion d'honneur and thanks Victor for his recommendation; he would like to see Les Burgraves before leaving for Brittany with his regiment.
