ARGENTRÉ (Bertrand d'). Rennes, capital city... - Lot 218 - Nouvelle Etude
ARGENTRÉ (Bertrand d'). Rennes, capital city of Brittany and seat of the parliament. Paris, 1616. Black and white. Beautifully printed. 310 x 410 mm. Semi-perspective plan, considered the first plan of Rennes, established in 1616 by G. Closche and published by Charles d'Argentré, president of the parliament, in the History of Brittany by his father Bertrand d'Argentré. Its title "Rennes, capital city of Brittany and seat of parliament" is a desire to inscribe the city in a new regional status against Nantes. The perspective shows the detailed interior of the city surrounded by its ramparts: the north is built up, while the south, close to the Vilaine and subject to flooding, is less dense.
