LA FONTAINE (J.). Selected fables set in verse. Par M. de la Fontaine, par luy reveues, corrigées augmentées. Paris, Denys Thierry Claude Barbin (vol. 1-4) - Claude Barbin (vol.5), 1678-1679 -1694, 5 vol. in-12, jansenist red morocco, spine with nerves, tr. gilt (Chambolle-Duru, 1868). First collective edition of the Fables de la Fontaine, the only one that was printed and corrected under the direction of the author. The first two, reprinted around 1692 under the date of 1678 are the reprint of the in-12 edition of 1668, the last 3 are in original edition. Volume One : 32 ff. - 216 pp. - 1 f. of errata. 57 mid-page engravings by F. Chauveau engraved on copper. Second volume : Title dated 1678. 232 pp. including the title with blank verso, plus at the end 4 pp. non chiffr. of table and 2 ff. for the privilege. With 60 mid-page engravings by F.Chauveau engraved on copper. This volume belongs to an edition reprinted by Trabouillet in 1692, differs from that printed in 1678 by the title. Third part: Title dated 1678. 2 preliminary ff., the first blank and the second containing the false title, 220 pp. chiffr. including at the beginning the title whose back is blank. At the end the table occupies pages 219-220. Mq. the errata f. and the warning. With 44 mid-page engravings by F. Chauveau engraved on copper. Part IV: Title dated 1679. 221 pp. chiffr. including at the beginning the title whose verso is blank. The fables begin on page 3 and end on page 221. 3 unencrypted pp. of which 2 for the table and 1 for the extract of the Privilege. Following the table are the errata in seven lines. With 43 copper-engraved mid-page engravings by F. Chauveau. Fifth part: Untamped title, dated 1694. 4 uncensored preliminary pages, including the title, the verso of which is blank, the dedication " à Monseigneur le duc de Bourgogne", the extract of the privilege - 228 pages in figures for the text of the fables and 2 uncensored pages for the table. (pages 186 and 187 having been repeated), it is in reality 230 pp. chiffr. plus 2 pp. of table. This volume or fifth part does not contain a tome. With 29 (out of 31) mid-page copper engravings by F.
