Guyot was a leading figure in animal sculpture in the 1930s. A close associate of Pompon, he was part of the Groupe des Douze artistic movement, along with Jeanne Poupelet and Paul Jouve, among others. Until the end of his life, he occupied Picasso's studio at the Bateau-Lavoir.
